When water lands on rocks heated well past boiling, it flashes almost instantly from liquid to vapor. Steam tables put the volume of water vapor near 100°C at roughly 1,600 times the volume of the liquid water that produced it — the same figure engineers use when sizing boilers and steam systems, applied here to a much smaller and more pleasant scale.
This calculator multiplies your ladle count by a standard 150 mL kauha size, applies that expansion ratio, and compares the resulting steam volume to your room's air volume as a rough intensity gauge — a higher percentage means a stronger, more immediate wave of löyly.

Why does a small amount of water make so much steam?
